The sound of thunder heralded the approach of the stallion. Powerful muscle rippled beneath a coat of obsidian, sunlight reflecting in shades of blues and violets, his mane and tail billowing behind him like a proud banner. He was a tall, proud beast, his high-stepping gait and the careless toss of his head screaming confidence as he trumpted to the grulla mare in the valley below.

Pendrel had never seen anything like him before, and she watched his approach with wonder and caution. She quirked an ear as the stud flew into a flashy extended trot, neck arching, nostrils flaring, eyes locking onto hers as if daring her to find another more handsome than he.

Had nature given her the ability, she would have smiled.

We shall see, she thought.
